Tony Abbott meets with Wang Jiarui

CANBERRA, March 26 -- Tony Abbott, prime minister of Australia and leader of the Liberal Party of Australia met with a CPC delegation headed by Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee here today.

Wang expressed China's appreciation for the close collaboration accorded by Australia in the search for the missing Malaysian Airlines passenger flight. Wang said China attaches importance to the relations with Australia and is willing to cooperate with the Australian side to ensure success of relevant high-level visits, and seize opportunities to step up China-Australia relations.

Tony Abbott stressed that they will continue the joint effort with relevant parties in the search, rescue, and investigation of the missing jet. He emphasized that his country values the relations with China and is willing to be an important friend, a strategic partner and a staunch economic partner of China. He looks forward to a fruitful April visit to China.

During the visit, Wang also met with Warren Truss, deputy prime minister of Australia and leader of the Nationals, Brian Loughnane, federal director of the Liberal Party, Bill Shorten, leader of the Australian Labour Party (ALP), and Peter Varghese, secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
