Maltese prime minister meets with Yu Hongjun

VALLETTA, March 30 -- Joseph Muscat, leader of the Labour Party of Malta and Maltese Government prime minister, met on 30th of March at the headquarters of the Labour Party with the visiting vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee Yu Hongjun.

Yu called the relations between China and Malta a paradigm for friendly coexistence between countries of different sizes and different social systems. He enumerated the new opportunities for the development of such relations against the backdrop of the strategies unveiled by the 3rd Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to comprehensively deepen reforms. The Chinese side is ready to join efforts with the Maltese side to further cooperation in different fields. The CPC also sets great store by the relations with the Maltese Labour Party and hopes to step up dialogue with the latter and bring about closer exchanges between young political leaders of the two sides and more frequent exchanges of information, said the vice-minister.

Muscat said his country values the opportunities brought about by the 3rd Plenary Session of the CPC’s 18th Central Committee to the relations between the two countries. Malta is willing to join hands with China for pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure, finance, aviation and tourism among other areas, and push forward the state-to-state relations. The Labour Party is looking forward to further exchanges and cooperation with the CPC, said the prime minister.

Vice-minister Yu Hongjun is paying a visit to Malta between March 30th and April 1st as head of a goodwill delegation. During his visit, he also met respectively with then president of Malta George Abela, deputy leader of the Labour Party Toni Abela, leader of the Nationalist Party of Malta Simon Busuttil, and Shadow Foreign Minister Carmelo Bonnici.
