BEIJING, June 26  -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) led by General Richard Myers, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Noting that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of relationship between the IDCPC and the AFPC, Wang said that the Chinese side has a very high opinion of the achievements made through the engagement over the two decades. He reiterated that China will follow a path of peaceful development, and expressed the will of the Chinese side to expand the scope of relations and explore new ways of exchange with the American side, with a view to making greater contribution to the building of a new type of major country relationship between China and the United States.

Myers said that more mutual understanding between China and the United States will lead to better foreign policies from both countries and more proper accommodation of each others core interests. The AFPC is willing to exert positive influence in shaping the U.S.-China relationship.
