 ( 2014.07.16 )

BEIJING, July 16 -- Wang Jiarui, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a delegation from the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) headed by its representative leader Kaieda Banri.

Wang welcomed Kaieda Banri for heading a delegation to China at a difficult time for China-Japan relations, stressing that the main crux affecting the improvement of bilateral relations are the issues of Diaoyu Islands and history, and hoping that the Japanese side can face up to the history, clearly understand the situation, demonstrate sincerity, do more to remove misunderstanding between the two peoples and increase political mutual trust, and take real actions to realize the turnaround of China-Japan relations. He said that the CPC attaches importance to its exchanges and cooperation with the DPJ, hoping that the DPJ can bear in mind the larger picture of China-Japan relations, utter more positive voices and play a more constructive role.

On his part, Kaieda Banri said that against the current circumstances, the increase of exchanges between politicians of the two countries is crucial for the two sides to deepen understanding and overcome difficulties in bilateral relations. The DPJ is willing to, through inter-party exchange and with its own efforts, help to bring Japan-China relations back to the track of strategic mutual benefit at an early date.
