Li Jinjun meets with the European Greens and chairs talks with the delegation

BEIJING, JAN. 6 -- Vice-minister Li Jinjun of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met on the morning of January 6th with a delegation of the European Green Party (EGP)headed by its former chairman Philippe Lamberts, and chairs talks with the delegation. Chinese scholars participating the seminar included Mr. Lu Zhongyuan, member of the CPPCC and former deputy president of the Development Research Center of the State Council, Mr. Bie Tao, deputy director general of the Department of Policies, Laws and Regulations of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and Mr. Zhang Jianping, director of the Office of International Cooperation of the Institute for International Economic Research of NDRC.

Li focused his remarks on the background and general objective for comprehensively deepening reforms laid out at the Third Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee. He briefed the foreign guests that the Third Plenum was an important meeting held at a crucial juncture of China's reform and opening-up and that future reforms constitute a comprehensive and complicated project after entering a "deep-water area" and "tough period". He also pointed out that while deepening reforms across the board and sticking to the opening-up strategy of mutual benefit, China will provide more opportunities for deepening practical cooperation with the European side in various areas. Lamberts said that it is important to learn about the future directions for China's reform by visiting China. He said that the China-EU 2020 Strategic Agenda for Cooperation pointed the direction for bilateral cooperation. He also expressed the necessity for Europe and China to enhance cooperation and realize green and sustainable development in the face of common challenges such as global economic imbalance and climate change. The two sides also discussed other issues including climate change, the relationship between environmental protection and socio-economic development, democracy and the rule of law, etc.
