Yu Hongjun meets with deputy secretary
of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia

BEIJING, Feb. 19 -- Vice-minister Yu Hongjun of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee met in Beijing on Feb 19th with Gillian Bird, deputy secretary of theDepartment of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia.

Yu said that China-Australia relations are facing important opportunities in 2014 and China is willing to join efforts with Australia to continue improving the level of bilateral relations. The Communist Party of China is willing to strengthen communications and dialogues with major political parties of Australia and enhance mutual understanding and trust so as to consolidate the political basis of the bilateral relations.

Gillian Bird said that the Australian government attaches great importance to relations with China. The relations between Australia and China are built on the basis of mutual respect and win-win cooperation which are in line with the common interest of the two countries. Party-to- party relations has important significance to the development of the bilateral relations and as always the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia is committed to supporting communications between political parties of the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common interest.
