Chinese senior official meets president of European Left Party

BEIJING, July 3 -- Wang Chen, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met on Tuesday with a delegation led by Gregor Gysi, president of the European Left Party (ELP).

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China has proposed that the country and Europe make joint efforts to develop partnerships of peace, growth, reform and civilization, which charted the course for the development of China-Europe relations.

He said the CPC stands ready to enhance mutual trust and communications with the ELP, and work for building a new type of inter-party relations featuring seeking common ground while setting aside differences as well as mutual respect and mutual learning.

For his part, Gysi said the ELP stands ready to maintain close exchanges with the Chinese side on relations between the two parties and the relationship between Europe and China.
