Li conveyed President Xi Jinping’s warm greetings to Díaz-Canel, and congratulated Cuba on the election of the new leadership in April this year. Li expressed that the common ideal and faith closely connect China and Cuba. In the new period, we will follow the instructions of President Xi Jinping, unswervingly deepen the friendship featuring utter sincerity, steadfastly carry out mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation, and firmly be partners in reform and development, so as to continuously elevate China-Cuba relations to a new level.

Díaz-Canel asked Li to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and expressed that Cuba-China relations are at the best time in history. Cuba is making efforts to deepen the renewal of its economic and social model. The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) is willing to, together with the CPC, strengthen multi-level contacts and conduct exchanges and mutual learning in the experience of socialist construction.

At the invitation of the PCC, Li Qiang, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, led a CPC delegation to visit Cuba from July 14th to 17th. During the stay in Cuba, Li respectively held talks with Ulises Guilarte De Nacimiento, Member of the Political Bureau of the PCC Central Committee and Secretary General of the Central Union of Cuban Workers, and José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, Member of the Secretariat of the PCC Central Committee and Head of the International Relations Department of the PCC Central Committee. Li attended the 24th Sao Paulo Forum and delivered a speech, visited Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and watched the picture exhibition of Shanghai’s achievements in the past 40 years of reform and opening up and the “Shanghai Night” artistic performance together with the leaders of the PCC.
