Li conveyed the warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to Varela. He said that the establishment of China-Panama diplomatic relations in June last year has opened a new chapter for the relations between the two countries. The seed of China-Panama relations has been blossoming and yielding fruits over the past year. Both sides have strengthened political mutual trust, made remarkable progress in practical cooperation and increasingly intensified people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Facts have proved that the establishment of China-Panama diplomatic relations is the correct political decision made by the two sides from a long-term perspective and has been unanimously supported by the two peoples. It is hoped that both sides can work together to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and promote the stable and long-term development of the bilateral relations. The CPC is willing to enhance exchanges at various levels with the Panameñista Party to push forward the comprehensive and in-depth development of China-Panama relations.

Varela asked Li to convey his best wishes to President Xi Jinping. He said that since the establishment of Panama-China diplomatic relations over the past year, the relations between the two countries have achieved impressive results. Panama is full of confidence in the future of the Panama-China relations. The Panamanian government will firmly abide by the one-China policy and join hands with China to promote the rapid development of cooperation in all fields and bring benefits to the people of the two countries. The Panameñista Party is willing to learn from the rich experience of the CPC in state governance and administration.

At the invitation of the Panameñista Party, Li led a CPC delegation to visit Panama from July 17th to 19th. During the visit, Li met with José Luis Varela, President of the Panameñista Party and José Blandón Figueroa, Mayor of Panama City respectively. He also witnessed the signing of the letter of intent on cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and Panama City, visited the Colon Free Trade Zone and attended the photo exhibition on Shanghai’s achievement in its reform and opening up over the past 40 years.
