Song Tao Meets with Leader of Labour Party of Norway

Beijing, September 7th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Jonas Gahr Støre, Leader of the Labour Party of Norway.

Song expressed that Norway is one of the first Western countries to recognize the People's Republic of China and one of the first European countries to recognize China's market economy status. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, friendship and cooperation have always been the mainstream of bilateral relations and have brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. The exchanges of political parties are an important part of the relations between the two countries and shoulder the political leading responsibility for the development of China-Norway relations. The CPC is willing to further strengthen in-depth exchanges and cooperation with the Norwegian Labour Party, continuously enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust, and join hands to make positive efforts to consolidate the sound social foundation for the development of China-Norway relations.

Støre said that Norway-China relations have a long history and strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries is the established position of the Labour Party. The visit of the delegation to China is to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the CPC and promote Norway-China relations for constant and new progress through the joint efforts of the two Parties.

Both sides also exchanged views on the current international situation and other issues of common concern.

Li Jun, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, attended the meeting.
