Li Xi Meets with Prime Minister of New Zealand

Wellington, September 10th—Li Xi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, met here today with Jacinda Ardern, Leader of New Zealand Labour Party and Prime Minister of the government.

Li Xi conveyed sincere greetings of General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to Ardern. He expressed that since the beginning of 2017, General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have met with you at multiple occasions, and reached important consensus on further developing relations between China and New Zealand. At present, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, China has deeply implemented people-centered development philosophy, upheld new development concept, deepened reform, expanded opening up, and promoted high-quality economic development. The Chinese side is willing to, together with New Zealand, increase political mutual trust, expand economic cooperation, deepen inter-party exchanges, enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, and expand practical cooperation between Guangdong Province and New Zealand, in a bid to promote China-New Zealand relations for constant and forward-looking development. Li Xi also introduced the situation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Ardern asked Li Xi to convey her best wishes to General Secretary Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. She noted that New Zealand and China share common practice in increasing people’s well-being, protecting ecological environment and promoting coordinated development. Both sides enjoy highly-matched development strategies and broad cooperation space. New Zealand is willing to further intensify bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, tourism, and innovation, enhance inter-party exchanges, and deepen practical cooperation with Guangdong Province, so as to promote bilateral relations for new development.

At the invitation of the government of New Zealand, Li Xi led a CPC delegation to pay a friendly visit to New Zealand from September 10th to 12th. During the visit, Li XI respectively met with Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of New Zealand, and Phil Goff, Mayor of Auckland, as well as inspected local scientific and technological innovation enterprises.
