Song Tao Meets with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Oslo, December 7th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Ine Eriksen Søreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

Song said that since the normalization of China-Norway relations, both sides have intensified their high-level exchanges, continuously expanded economic and trade cooperation, with more active non-governmental and local exchanges between both sides. China is willing to make concerted efforts with Norway to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping, King Harald V and Prime Minister Erna Solberg on the development of bilateral relations, adhere to the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment, safeguard the political foundation of China-Norway relations, accommodate and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, and expand friendly exchanges and cooperation in such areas as political parties, economy and trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, and sports. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Norway in international and regional affairs, adhere to multilateralism and safeguard the multilateral trading system together.

Søreide expressed that the year 2019 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Norway and China, and bilateral relations will usher in a new period of development opportunities. The Norwegian Government respects China's core interests and major concerns and will take concrete actions to safeguard the political foundation for bilateral relations. The Norwegian side is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields, cement communication and coordination in international affairs, and jointly safeguard multilateralism and multilateral trading system.
