DPRK Art Troupe’s First Performance Held in Beijing

The first performance of an art troupe from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was held at the Opera House of the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on the evening of January 26th (Xinhua/ Liu Bin)

Beijing, January 26th--The first performance of an art troupe from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) was held here today on the evening at the Opera House of the National Center for the Performing Arts.

Integrating tradition and modernity, the performance included classical music, folk music and pop music. The folk song "Arirang" played on kayagum and orchestral instruments revealed strong national features of the DPRK. The Chinese songs "Love My China" and "On the Field of Hope" were warmly received by the audience. The tap dance "Youth" and the song and dance "Run to the Future" and other programs showed rich modern vitality. Immersed in a joyful atmosphere, the whole performance won warm applause from the audience, who said that this was a high-level performance.

It is reported that the DPRK art troupe’s performance in China is an important cultural exchange activity to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries. It will further promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the DPRK and add new rich connotations to bilateral traditional friendship.

At the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the DPRK art troupe headed by Ri Su-yong, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), Vice-Chairman of the WPK Central Committee and Director of the International Department, arrived in Beijing on January 24th to visit and perform in China.
