The Belt and Road Forum for Interconnected Land-Sea Development Held in Chongqing

Chongqing, June 3rd--the Belt and Road Forum for Interconnected Land-Sea Development, co-hosted by the Silk Road Think Tank Association, an association initiated by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Chongqing municipal government, was held here today.

Chen Miner, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Chen pointed out that the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation was successfully held in April this year, and President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the forum, which charted the course for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Chongqing has an important strategic position and obvious geographical advantages, which will play a unique role in the interconnection of land and sea development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Chongqing will fully implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speech in Chongqing, strive to play a supporting role in promoting the development of western China in the new era, and play a leading role in facilitating the construction of Belt and Road and the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, expressed in his speech that the Belt and Road Initiative conforms to the trend of the times and the call of the people. Connectivity is the key to the Belt and Road Initiative. We hope that all parties will be advocates of interconnection of land and sea development, builders of connectivity networks and guardians of the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. We hope that cooperation will go beyond confrontation and win-win cooperation beyond monopolization, and that we will strive to foster a sound situation with facilities connectivity, interconnected development and shared benefits.

With the theme of "Shaping a New Shared Future for Interconnected Land-Sea Development," the forum was attended by political heavyweights, think tank scholars and business people from more than 30 countries. During the meeting, all participants reached extensive consensus on the interconnection of land and sea development under the Belt and Road Initiative and adopted the Chongqing Initiative.
