Li Xi Leads CPC Delegation to Visit India

From June 5th to 8th, Li Xi, Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, led a CPC delegation to pay a friendly visit to India. He met respectively with Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party, Rahul Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress, and Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat, and attended 2019 China (Guangdong)–India (Gujarat) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference and other events.

Li said that under the joint leadership of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, China-India relations have shown a strong momentum of development. This visit is to well implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of China and India so as to promote mutual trust and expand practical cooperation. Based on the practice in the development of Guangdong, Li introduced China’s historical achievements and changes that have taken place since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago and the reform and opening up 40 years ago, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress. He actively stated the firm position, confidence and determination of the Chinese side in China-US economic and trade frictions. Li stressed that as China and India share common interests on such major issues as promoting world multi-polarization, economic globalization and upholding multilateralism, the Chinese side is ready to work with the Indian side to meet common challenges and share opportunities. The CPC is willing to enhance exchanges of experience in party governance and state administration with major Indian political parties so as to consolidate the political foundation of China-India relations. Guangdong Province is in the hope of in-depth exchanges and cooperation with India to continuously inject impetus into a closer development partnership between China and India.

The Indian side spoke highly of the great significance of Li’s visit, believing that it will help continue the sound momentum of development of bilateral relations. The Indian side expressed its willingness to maintain high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the governments, political parties, local governments and other fields, continuously enhance understanding and mutual trust, push forward the sound development of India-China relations and jointly promote world peace, stability and prosperity.
