Cai Qi Leads CPC Delegation to Visit Japan

At the invitation of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Komeito Party of Japan, Cai Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, led a CPC delegation to visit Japan from June 6th to 9th. He met with ToshihiroNikai, LDP Secretary General, Natsuo Yamaguchi, Leader of Japan’s Komeito Party, Tetsuo Saito, Secretary General of Japan’s Komeito Party, Shunichi Suzuki, Minister for Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic, Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, Shui Chi Abe, Governor of Nagano, and Takatoshi Nishiwaki, Governor of Kyoto respectively.

Cai said that China-Japan relations are now back on track and show a positive momentum of development. We are ready to work with the Japanese side to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Japanese leaders, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, tighten the bond of public opinion, increase inter-party, local and Olympic exchanges and cooperation, and jointly open up new prospects for bilateral relations. Cai also introduced the position of the Chinese side on China-US economic and trade frictions, saying that China and Japan should strengthen communication and coordination, jointly deal with the challenges of protectionism and unilateralism, promote the construction of an open world economy and make important contributions to the development and prosperity of Asia and the world at large.

The Japanese side said that it attaches great importance to President Xi’s attendance at the G20 Osaka Summit and hopes to take this opportunity to achieve positive results in promoting free trade and push the bilateral relations to a new level. The Japanese side is ready to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in political parties, local areas, Olympics, youth and other fields, so as to inject new impetus into the improvement and development of Japan-China relations.

During the visit, Cai also discussed with the Japanese side about the planning and construction of the capital, the preparation of the Winter Olympics and the protection and utilization of cultural heritage by taking the example of Beijing’s practice of implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He also attended a series of celebrations to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Beijing and Tokyo.
