Li Xi Meets with Prime Minister of Malaysia

Putrajaya, June 13th—Li Xi, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, met here today with Mahathir Mohamad, Chairman of Pakatan Harapan and Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Li first conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 45 years ago, China-Malaysia relations have grown stronger with fruitful pragmatic cooperation. President Xi and His Excellency reached important consensus on further enhancing China-Malaysia relations and deepening the Belt and Road cooperation during the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The purpose of my visit is to implement this important consensus, strengthen inter-party exchanges and promote practical cooperation between Guangdong and Malaysia. Li briefed Mahathir on China's firm position and determination as well as confidence in trade frictions between China and the United States (US), and expressed willingness to work with Malaysia to uphold multilateralism and promote the building of an open world economy. Malaysia is welcome to participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and share development opportunities.

Mahathir asked Li to convey his best wishes to President Xi and Premier Li and congratulated on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He said that Malaysia attaches great importance to bilateral relations and hopes to strengthen all-round pragmatic cooperation and deepen inter-party and sub-national exchanges. Malaysia firmly opposes to the unreasonable suppress on Chinese enterprises by the US, and is willing to jointly safeguard economic globalization and multilateral trading system, expand win-win cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and actively participate in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the invitation of Pakatan Harapan, Li led a CPC delegation to visit Malaysia from June 11th to 14th. During the visit, Li met respectively with leaders of main political parties of the government and opposition of Malaysia, held discussions with representatives of overseas Chinese, and inspected enterprises from Guangdong in Malaysia.
