 ( 2019.07.09 )

Beijing, July 9th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Megawati Sukarnoputri, Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and former Indonesian President.

Song said China and Indonesia enjoy a time-honored friendship, and the profound friendship forged by the elder generations of leaders of the two countries has been constantly carried forward in the new era. Under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo, the relations between the two countries have entered a new development stage. The CPC attaches great importance to maintaining friendly relations with the PDI-P and sincerely congratulates the PDI-P on winning the general election in Indonesia this year. Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries as well as the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the inter-party relations between the two Parties. It is hoped that we will well implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, advance integration of development strategies including the Belt and Road Initiative and Global Maritime Axis, and push the relations between our two Parties and countries for greater development. As regional major countries, both China and Indonesia shoulder the important mission of safeguarding regional and global peace and stability. Against the backdrop of increasing instabilities and uncertainties of the international situation, our two Parties and countries should enhance mutual trust and exchanges, carry forward the Silk Road spirit of win-win cooperation, and safeguard multilateralism and the multilateral trading system, in a bid to push further development of the human society in the right direction.

Song also briefed on the CPC’s ongoing education campaign under the theme of remaining true to its original aspiration and keeping its mission firmly in mind. He emphasized that the CPC is willing to share experience in party governance and state administration with the PDI-P to better lead the rapid development of their respective countries for the benefit of the two peoples.

Megawati noted that she was delighted to attend the Eighth World Peace Forum in China at invitation. Indonesia regards China as a friendly neighboring country and comprehensive strategic partner. As an important hub of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, Indonesia stands ready to positively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by China, and believes that such gesture will enhance practical cooperation between the two countries and boost regional prosperity and development. Megawati said that she, as Chairwomen of the PDI-P, remains committed to inheriting her father’s spirit of developing friendly cooperation with China, and attaches great importance to advancing exchanges at various levels between the PDI-P and the CPC. She added that one of the main purposes of her visit to China this time is to learn the CPC’s experience in party governance and state administration. She hoped that the ruling parties of the two countries will enhance institutionalized exchanges, consolidate political foundation of bilateral practical cooperation and push Indonesia-China relations for new development.
