Prime Minister of Bulgaria and GERB Chairman Meets with Li Hongzhong

Sofia, July 12th--Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister of Bulgaria and Chairman of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) met here today with Li Hongzhong, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee.

Li expressed that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping and President Rumen Radev, who was visiting China, agreed to lift the relations between the two countries to strategic partnership, pushing China-Bulgaria relations to new levels. China is willing to work with Bulgaria to well implement the consensus of the two heads of state and take the Belt and Road Initiative as the support pillar to propel bilateral practical cooperation for fruitful results. The CPC is willing to continue to deepen friendly exchanges with the GERB, consolidate the political foundation for China-Bulgaria relations. Li also introduced Tianjin’s efforts in implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and economic and social development, and exchanged in-depth views with Borissov on expanding sub-regional cooperation with Tianjin.

Borissov spoke highly of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and stressed that Bulgaria is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and deepen bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas. The GERB is willing to work with the CPC to strengthen experience in state governance and administration and push together Bulgaria-China strategic partnership for constant and forward-looking development. Borissov said enterprises in Tianjin are welcome to invest in Bulgaria.

At the same day, Li also met with Tsveta Karayancheva, Speaker of Parliament of Bulgaria.

At the invitation of the GERB, Li led a CPC delegation to visit Bulgaria from July 11th to 13th.
