Liu Jianchao Holds a Video Call with Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee

Beijing, July 22nd—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), held a video call here today with Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee.

Liu said that China and Laos are friendly socialist neighbors and a community with a shared future with strategic significance. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith have charted the course for the development of China-Laos relations. Facing the complex and changing international situation, China and Laos should adhere to the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries as the fundamental principle, strengthen strategic cooperation, resolutely safeguard respective political security, and continuously deepen and expand cooperation in economic and trade, health, people's livelihood, defense, law enforcement, and the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and other fields. The Chinese side speaks positively of the Lao side’s contributions to promoting the development of China-ASEAN relations, and is willing to work with all countries, including Laos, to practice true multilateralism, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, and jointly maintain regional and world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Liu said that the relationship between the two Parties plays a political leading role in China-Laos relations. The CPC is willing to work with the LPRP to strengthen high-level exchanges between the two Parties, implement the action plan for building a China-Laos community with a shared future in a coordinated way, deepen the exchanges of experience in state governance and administration between the two Parties, and carry out exchanges and cooperation between the two Parties' cadres, discipline inspection, publicity and other counterpart departments to promote the China-Laos community with a shared future for higher-quality and higher-level development.

Thongsavanh spoke highly of the epochal and world significance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era. He thanked the Chinese side for its strong support in Laos' fight against the COVID-19 as well as in economic and social development. Thongsavanh said that the LPRP is willing to work with the CPC to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and mutual trust, deepen theoretical discussions and cadre training exchanges between the two Parties, and promote major project cooperation and other practical cooperation, fully implement the action plan for building a Laos-China community with a shared future, and promote the in-depth development of relations between the two countries. The Lao side speaks highly of the Chinese side's contributions to maintaining international and regional peace and development, and firmly supports the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping. The Lao side will, together with the Chinese side, continue to support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, strengthen international cooperation, and jointly promote regional stability and development. The Lao side wishes the 20th CPC National Congress a complete success, and firmly believes that the CPC will unite and lead the Chinese people to achieve the second centenary goal.
