Chen Zhou Attends the Seminar Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and the Maldives and the Opening Ceremony of the Webinar for Cadres of Major Political Parties of the Maldives

Beijing, September 22nd—Chen Zhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), attended and addressed here today the seminar celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Maldives and the opening ceremony of the webinar for cadres of major political parties of the Maldives. The event was co-held by the IDCPC and the major political parties of the Maldives, with the theme of inheriting China-Maldives friendship and creating a better future together. Representatives of major political parties, including Maldivian Democratic Party, Progressive Party of Maldives, Maldives National Party, People’s National Congress, and Maldives Reform Movement, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.

Chen said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Maldives 50 years ago, the two countries have always supported each other and developed hand in hand. China-Maldives relations have become a model of equal treatment, friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation between large and small countries. The CPC is willing to work with the Maldivian political parties to take the opportunity of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations to contribute to the steady and long-term development of bilateral relations and the better development of respective countries. Chen also introduced the significance of the upcoming 20th CPC National Congress.

The political parties of the Maldives spoke highly of the relations between the two countries and the historic achievements of China's development since the 18th CPC National Congress. They wished the 20th CPC National Congress a complete success, and expressed their willingness to continue to learn from the CPC’s experience in party governance and state administration, deepen inter-party exchanges and cooperation, and promote greater development of bilateral relations in the new era.
