Liu Jianchao Meets with Ann Derwin, Irish Ambassador to China

Beijing, June 13th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Ann Derwin, Irish Ambassador to China.

Liu said, the current China-Ireland relations are maintaining good development momentum, and bilateral cooperation is deepened in various fields. China's strong economic recovery and continuous advancement of high-level opening-up will bring new development opportunities to China-Ireland cooperation. The CPC maintains various forms of exchanges with major political parties in Ireland and is willing to strengthen inter-party exchanges on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs, enhance political mutual trust, and promote the development of the China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation. It is hoped that both sides will strengthen cooperation, uphold multilateralism, promote China-European Union (EU) cooperation, and work together to address global challenges.

Ann Derwin said, Ireland sees China's opening-up and development as important opportunities, and practical cooperation in fields such as economy, trade, science and technology, medicine, and humanities between the two sides continues to expand. The Irish side looks forward to strengthening exchanges at all levels with the Chinese side, promoting communication and cooperation between major political parties in Ireland and the CPC, enhancing understanding of China across all sectors in Ireland, and promoting bilateral relations for in-depth development. The Irish side adheres to multilateralism and free trade, supports the development of EU-China relations, and is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with the Chinese side in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations.
