London, June 21st—Tony Blair, former leader of the Labour Party and former Prime Minister of the UK, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Blair stated that the current global economic and political landscapes are undergoing significant changes and facing numerous challenges. China is an important component of the open world economic system. The development of UK-China relations requires joint efforts from both sides to continuously strengthen political, economic, trade and cultural exchanges at all levels and in all fields. Both sides should tackle challenges such as climate change and global public health, maintain and cement a positive and constructive development momentum. Recently, China has played an important role in the reconciliation process between the Middle Eastern countries and it is hoped that China will further engage in diplomatic actions, and make even greater contributions to regional peace and stability. He expressed his willingness to continue making efforts to strengthen communication, dialogue, and cooperation between the UK and China.

Liu appreciated Blair's role in promoting the development of UK-China relations. He said that China actively conducts major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, maintaining interactions with other major countries and promoting stable development of major-country relations. The UK-China relations have global significance, and the two countries should enhance dialogues and exchanges in various fields including governments, local authorities, think tanks, and civil society, so as to manage differences, enhance mutual understanding, and gradually build consensus. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges with major political parties such as the Labour Party, engaging in candid and in-depth communication on how to promote cooperation and jointly tackle global challenges, in a bid to contribute to the healthy and stable development of UK-China relations.
