Beijing, July 2nd—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended here today the luncheon of the 11th World Peace Forum, and delivered a speech themed on pursuing the just cause and building world peace together.

Centering on the key word "peace", Liu shared his views with the Chinese and foreign guests on finding solutions to the difficulties in the peace of the world, discussing effective ways to peace and lighting the torch for peace.

Liu said, peace has always been the common aspiration of people of all countries. But until today, human beings have not yet jumped out of the historical cycle of war and peace, and lasting peace and universal security is still a "scarce commodity" that people are looking forward to. Particularly in the context of the continuous and in-depth evolution of the changes unseen in a century, the instability, uncertainty, and insecurity in the international community continue to increase, and there is still a long way to go to build up consensus, promote cooperation, stabilize order, and maintain peace in the world.

Liu said, peace has been in the blood of Chinese people, laying the foundation for China's longstanding peace. Since the new era, General Secretary Xi Jinping has, with a keen sense of the future and destiny of mankind, worked to maintain world peace, promote common development, and facilitate exchanges and progress among civilizations. He has put forward major initiatives and proposals such as building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative, which together constitute the CPC's worldview and view on peace in the new era.

Liu said, lighting the torch for peace is the cause of mankind. We should proceed from common development, and build a solid material foundation for peace. We should focus on universal security, and build a wing of security for peace. We should promote mutual learning among civilizations and consolidate the foundation of peace.

Wang Xiqin, President of Tsinghua University, presided over the event. After the speech, Liu also answered questions from the guests on the CPC's external exchanges, China-US relations, China's policy in the Middle East, the implementation of China's Law on Foreign Relations, better alignment with the development strategies and policy of countries along the Belt and Road, and the promotion of high-quality development of the Belt and Road cooperation.
