Liu Jianchao Meets with Fikile Mbalula, Secretary-General of African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa

Pretoria, July 17th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Fikile Mbalula, Secretary-General of African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa.

Liu said, since the establishment of the relationship between the CPC and the ANC 40 years ago, both Parties have always supported each other, laying an important political foundation for the development of relations between the two countries. The CPC is willing to work with the ANC to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and coordination, deepen experience exchange in state governance and administration, strengthen exchanges between women, youth and other affiliated organizations, and facilitate practical cooperation between the two Parties, so as to push China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Liu said, political party is the source of a country's domestic and external policies and plays an important role in the country's political life. The political parties of the BRICS countries should shoulder the responsibilities of seeking common development, jointly safeguarding peace, jointly promoting civilization, and jointly promoting change, and make contributions as a political party to the development of the BRICS mechanism. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the South African side under BRICS and other mechanisms, implement together the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Mbalula welcomed Liu, who led a CPC delegation to South Africa for the 2023 BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogue. He said, not long ago, I led a delegation of the ANC National Executive Committee to visit China, during which I witnessed the great development achievements the Chinese people made under the leadership of the CPC and learned the valuable experience of the CPC in organizational construction and cadre training. The ANC regards the CPC as an important strategic partner, and hopes to fully implement the memorandum of exchange and cooperation between the two Parties, strengthen institutionalized exchanges, expand exchanges and cooperation between group organizations, and push South Africa-China relations for greater development.

Mbalula said, the ANC thanked the Chinese side for the strong support for the Former Liberation Movements of Southern Africa during the construction of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School. He hoped to make good use of the platform, enhance governing capabilities and better build his country. The South African side supports a series of important global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side in BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms to build a better world.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and other issues.
