Canberra, November 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Penny Wong, Leader of the Government in the Australian Senate and Foreign Minister of Australia.

Liu noted, not long ago, President Xi Jinping met with visiting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, opening a new chapter for the development of bilateral relations. The purpose of my visit to Australia with a CPC delegation this time is to have in-depth dialogue with all parties, including Australia’s major political parties, to promote the implementation of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication between the two sides, enhance political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation and consolidate the public opinion foundation for the friendship between the two countries. During my exchanges with leaders of Australia's major political parties, I found that all major Australian political parties support China-Australia relations returning to the right track of development and are willing to work together to advance dialogue and communication between China and Australia. The CPC is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Australia's major political parties to promote the development of China-Australia relations.

Liu said, the current international situation is intertwined with turmoil. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed building a community with a shared future for mankind, as well as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. He called for focusing on common development, seeking universal security, and strengthening exchanges and mutual learning, which has won support from the majority of the countries worldwide. China and Australia are both located in the Asia-Pacific region and are both major countries with global influence. We should view China-Australia relations more from a regional and global perspective and jointly contribute to the development of the region and the world. The Chinese side is willing to carry out more trilateral and multi-party cooperation with the Australian side, support South Pacific island countries in enhancing development resilience, maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region through openness and inclusiveness, and jointly respond to global challenges such as climate change.

Penny Wong welcomed Liu's visit to Australia with the CPC delegation, and said, the Australian side is pleased with Prime Minister Albanese's successful visit to China. She believed that this visit is of great significance and an important step forward in bilateral relations. It will not only promote the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, but will also promote more frequent contacts between China and Australia. The Australian side hopes to take this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen dialogue and communication between the two countries and push for new progress in bilateral relations. The Australian side looks forward to having strategic dialogue with the Chinese side in the near future. The visit of the CPC delegation to Australia shows that the Chinese side is committed to having dialogue with Australia and hopes that both sides can communicate candidly, handle differences appropriately, prevent misunderstandings from amplifying and escalating, and create a sound atmosphere for bilateral relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on some specific issues in the current relations between the two countries.

Natasha Kassam, Senior Adviser to the Foreign Minister, Scott Dewar, Ambassador-designate to China, and others were present.
