Liu Jianchao Meets with Mohamad Hasan, Deputy President of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia

Beijing April 24th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Mohamad Hasan, Deputy President of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.  


Liu said, last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached important consensus on building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, charting the course for the development of bilateral relations. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Malaysian side to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen the docking of development strategies, and expand all-round cooperation. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the CPC and the UMNO. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges at all levels with the UMNO, deepen mutual learning, and promote the development of China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership. Next year, Malaysia will take over the rotating presidency of ASEAN. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Malaysian side to promote the development of China-ASEAN relations.  

Mohamad said, the Malaysian side is firmly committed to the friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and China, and is willing to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to, together with the Chinese side, strengthen high-level mutual visit, expand import and export trade, and expand cooperation in infrastructure, digital economy, green energy and other fields. More Chinese companies are welcome to invest in Malaysia. He hoped to increase the number of flights between the two sides, increase personnel exchanges, and promote the comprehensive development of bilateral relations. The Malaysian side firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to give play to the role of ASEAN's rotating chair next year to promote the development of ASEAN-China relations and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.  

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
