China hopes to work together with Vietnam to effectively maintain, consolidate, and develop Sino-Vietnam relations that were founded and cultivated by older leaders of the CPC and the CPV, Wang Jiarui, minister　 of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, said during an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency prior to Vice President Xi Jinping's visit to Vietnam.

Xi will pay an official visit to Vietnam from Dec. 20 to 22. He was invited by the CPV Central Committee and Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

Wang said Xi's visit is an important high-level exchange between China and its neighboring country this year.

The visit aims at promoting political trust, mutually beneficial cooperation and people-to-people friendship while boosting regional peace and prosperity.

Wang said Xi is scheduled to exchange deep views on bilateral relations and common concerns when meeting with Vietnamese and CPV leaders.

"We believe that it will be a visit for strengthening strategic communication and pragmatic cooperation, and extending civil friendship," Wang said.

Wang said China and Vietnam have built and developed a comprehensive strategic partnership over the past two decades since the normalization of relations between the two sides.

Chinese President Hu Jintao reached an important consensus on properly coping with differences when he met with Vietnamese Communist Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong in October.

The cooperation between the CPC and the CPV is an important component of the Sino-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership, and has played a positive and unique role in consolidating their governing positions and the construction of the socialist cause, Wang said.

"We are also continuing to beef up economic and trade cooperation, and sharing theories and experience of running the party and the state with each other," said Wang, adding that the promotion of exchanges between party leaders and cooperation in culture, education, military, and law enforcement safety have been developed.

China and Vietnam have also successfully resolved border issues and the Beibu Bay demarcation, Wang said.

The long-term, stable, and healthy development of Sino-Vietnam relations and their party-to-party relations will energize the socialist cause, Wang noted.

In the face of a complex and changing international situation and the arduous tasks of reform and stability on both sides, both the CPC and the CPV have committed to strengthening cooperation and seizing the opportunity to cope with challenges, said Wang.

"We believe that the CPC and the CPV will continuously make new achievements in exchange and cooperation through joint efforts, and make new contributions to the construction of the countries and the socialist cause," Wang said.
