BEIJING, May 18 -- China hopes the upcoming China-Europe political party forum will help cement bilateral relations, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said Tuesday.

The CPC will host the first-ever China-Europe High-Level Political Party Forum in Beijing from May 24-25 under the theme "Global Challenges and China-European Cooperation."

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-Europe diplomatic ties.

"The forum is a big event in the history of China-Europe political party exchange," said Liu Jieyi, vice minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Senior CPC leaders will attend the forum and meet more than 50 leaders of European political parties.

They will discuss issues related to post-crisis reform of the international economic and financial system, global governance, climate change, environmental protection, and China-European relations.

They will also discuss the importance of political party cooperation.

Liu said the forum will enhance China-Europe political and strategic trust.

It will also expand cooperation to jointly cope with global challenges, he added.

Liu hopes the forum will promote the China-Europe relationship to be a model partnership of mutual respect, friendly co-existence, win-win cooperation, and common development between different social systems with development patterns.

Leaders representing three regional political parties of Europe, major political party groups in the European Parliament, as well as high-ranking officials of major political parties from some European countries, will attend the forum.

The CPC had set up cooperative relationship with six political party groups in the European Parliament, five regional political parties in Europe, and over 170 European political parties.

"This help strengthen mutual political trust and push forward healthy growth of China-Europe ties," Liu noted.
