 ( 2010.10.21 )

BEIJING, Oct. 21 -- The International Department of the CPC Central Committee held a briefing this afternoon on which Pan Shengzhou, deputy head of the Central Research Office of the CPC, was invited to brief foreign diplomats in Beijing about the 5th Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

The briefing was held in response to extensive interest of the international community, foreign diplomats in particular, in the Plenum and the 12th Five-Year Program. It was warmly received by the diplomats, as shown by the presence of 140 diplomats from over 130 countries. A dozen of chairs and earphones had to be added.

At the briefing, Pan Shengzhou talked about the background, guiding ideas and major tasks, among others, of the 12th Five-Year Program and answered questions from the audience. After the briefing was over, some diplomats from Vietnam, Iceland and other countries stayed on and exchanged ideas with Pan on issues like economic growth, trade and energy.

While receiving an interview form this news network, Nguyen Vinh Quang, minister councilor of the Vietnamese Embassy in China, said that he had paid great attention to the 5th Plenum and he also compared this year’s communiqué with that of the 4th Plenum. He is very interested in China’s economic development in the 12th five-year plan period, for he thinks every change in China’s economy and society will have an impact on neighboring countries. He thinks that the series of briefings held by the IDCPC have been quite helpful for him.

This briefing was the fifth briefing held by the IDCPC for diplomats in Beijing this year. The previous four briefings were respectively on the Political System of China, the CPC's Way of Governance, Intra-party Democracy of the CPC, and China's Poverty Alleviation & the CPC. After the 4th Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee last year, the IDCPC also held a briefing for diplomats in Beijing. These briefings aim at meeting the need of diplomats in China by providing in-depth interpretation about the country and the Party. It has become an important information channel and window for diplomats to understand China and the CPC.
