Spokesman of International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC Comments on Czech Senate Speaker’s Visit to Taiwan
 ( 2020.09.02 )

Beijing, September 2nd— Hu Zhaoming, Spokesperson of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC said here today, Taiwan is an alienable part of China’s territory, and that the One China principle is a universal consensus of the international community. China has been consistently opposed to any form of official exchanges between China’s Taiwan region and any country that has diplomatic ties with China. Czech Senate Speaker Milos Vystrcil, regardless of the Chinese side’s solemn representations and firm opposition and disregarding Czech’s mainstream public opinions, has insisted on a so-called “visit” to Taiwan and deliberately interfered in China’s internal affairs, which grossly undermined the political basis of China-Czech relations. The Chinese side strongly condemns the despicable move.

In recent years, China-Czech relations have enjoyed great development on the basis of adhering to the One China principle, delivering tangible benefits to the two countries and peoples. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and the Czech Republic have helped and supported each other, injecting fresh impetus into China-Czech relations. We urge Vystrcil and his ilk to change their course, stop their violation of international trust and conduct that will challenge the One China principle in the Taiwan question, and give up damaging the political foundation for China-Czech friendly cooperation. We call for the Czech government and major political parties to firmly resist the insidious political plots of some politicians, take resolute measures to eliminate the bad impacts of the wrong move, so as to safeguard the overall situation of China-Czech relations and promote the steady and further development of China-Czech relations with concrete actions.
