Ruling Parties of China and Panama Hold Webinar for Cadres

Beijing, August 25th—The Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) held an opening ceremony of the webinar themed with “ruling parties of China and Panama join hands in the normalization of containing the COVID-19 and promoting economic and social development in a coordinated way”. Nearly 60 people were present, including Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Yu Weiguo, Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Pedro Miguel González, Secretary General of the PRD, and José Luis Fábrega, Panama City Mayor.

Song expressed, since China and Panama established diplomatic relations three years ago, both countries have seen comprehensive development in bilateral relations and fruitful results in cooperation in various areas under the joint promotion of General Secretary Xi Jinping and Panamanian leaders. Since the onset of the COVID-19, China and Panama have jointly fought the disease. The PRD actively joined hands with the CPC to call on political parties in the world to strengthen international anti-pandemic cooperation, demonstrating the friendship featuring mutual assistance between the two Parties and countries. The webinar held under the new circumstances aims to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, push the two Parties and two countries to strengthen experience exchanges in state governance and administration, and political mutual trust. This is how our two ruling parties can consolidate and develop the friendly relations between China and Panama, and benefit the two countries and two peoples.

Song emphatically introduced the third volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, saying that the work fully shows the great praxis that General Secretary Xi Jinping led the CPC and people of all ethnic groups in China to overcome all kinds of difficulties and forge ahead. It is the crystallization of the CPC’s commitment to developing the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. This year, China will win the fight against poverty and build a moderately prosperous society in all respects as scheduled, which will bring more development opportunities for all countries in the world, including Panama. China is willing to, together with Panama, safeguard multilateralism and global free trade, build an open world economy and contribute to prosperity and development in the world.

Yu introduced Fujian’s efforts in building itself into a province with flexible administrative mechanisms, a sound industrial structure, affluent citizens and a beautiful environment, a vision put forth by General Secretary Xi Jinping, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. He said, Fujian is willing to work with Panama to expand cooperation in shipping, finance, trade, tourism and logistic, advance construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance friendship between the two countries and peoples.

Pedro Miguel González and other Panamanian representatives spoke highly of China’s huge achievements in containing the COVID-19 and economic and social development, and thanked the Chinese side for offering help and support in Panama’s fight against the disease. The Panamanian side said, the PRD supports the establishment of diplomatic relations with China, and is satisfied with the progress made in the past three years. Panama will remain committed to the One China principle, staunchly support China in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. Political parties in Panama agreed on the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping. Moreover, they are willing to learn the experience and practices in poverty alleviation and other fields from China, give play to Panama’s geographical advantages and advantages in logistics, actively participate in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and propel Panama-China cooperation at local levels and in various areas, in a bid to promote regional and world development.

At the opening ceremony, Fujian Province and Panama City signed a letter of intent on establishing a sister city relationship via videolink.

Shen Beili, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, chaired the opening ceremony. Wei Qiang, Chinese Ambassador to Panama, Zheng Xincong, Secretary-General of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Guo Ningning, Vice Governor of Fujian, and others were present.
