Song Tao Holds Video Talks with Senior Leaders of Ruling Party of Sri Lanka

Beijing, August 26th—Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held video talks here with Basil Rajapaksa, Founder and National Organzier of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), G.L. Pieris, Minister of Education and Chairman of the SLPP, and Sagara Kariyawasam, General Secretary of the SLPP.

Song congratulated the SLPP on the victory in the parliament election, and spoke positively of the SLPP’s contributions to promoting the development of China-Sri Lanka relations. Song expressed, China and Sri Lanka share a fine tradition of sincere mutual assistance and generations of friendship. President Xi Jinping spoke with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the phone in May, charting the course for the development of the relations between the two countries in the new era. The Communist Party of China (CPC) is willing to work with the SLPP to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both countries, give play to the political guidance of exchanges between ruling parties and promote cooperation such as the high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Song emphatically introduced the third volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, and shared experience of party building of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core. He said, the CPC’s people-centered philosophy of development is highly compatible with the SLPP’s policy of putting people first. The CPC is looking forward to working with the SLPP to strengthen experience sharing in party governance and state administration, support each other on issues of core interests, and further consolidate the political foundation of the development of relations between our two countries.

Leaders of the SLPP said, Sri Lanka and China are good friends and good partners of mutual help. Sri Lanka thanks China for the support and help in its economic and social development, as well as in the fight against the COVID-19. The CPC’s experience in party building and philosophy of state governance are of reference significance for the SLPP. Sri Lanka has always attached importance to studying General Secretary Xi Jinping’s thought on state governance and administration, and is full of expectations for the third volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China. The SLPP is willing to deepen intra-party exchanges with the CPC, and continuously enhance mutual trust between our two countries and the friendship between the two peoples, so as to promote Sri-Lanka China relations for new progress.
