Beijing, September 30—the Theoretical Seminar on “Socialism Through the Lens of COVID-19 Response: Theory, Institution-building, and Practice”, jointly organized by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and 21st Century Marxist Association of South Asia, was held here today via videolink. Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and leaders of 15 left-wing parties in four South Asian countries, including Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal and Nepal’s former Prime Minister as well as Dinesh Gunawardena, Leader of People’s United Front of Sri Lanka and Minister of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka, attended and addressed the seminar.

Song said, the COVID-19 epidemic is still spreading globally, bringing severe challenges to human health, economic development, and international cooperation. Since the outbreak, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has consistently put the life and health of all its people front and center, rallying the Chinese people and leading them to secure major strategic achievements in the fight against the COVID-19 with great efforts. This seminar focuses on in-depth discussions on the theoretical, institutional, and practical advantages demonstrated in the fight against the epidemic by the communist parties and left-wing forces in Asia, including South Asian countries, which is beneficial to political parties from all countries to learn from each other’s anti-epidemic experience, strengthen regional and international cooperation, and work together to contain the global spread. It is also of great significance to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Song said, members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) continue to apply basic principles of Marxism to contemplate on the great challenges faced by China and the contemporary world and explore the solutions in practice and has made a great deal of significant theoretical innovation. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is Marxism in contemporary China and the 21st century. Currently, certain countries flagrantly promote unilateralism and bullying, posing threats to world peace and stability and global economic recovery. The CPC firmly opposes the approaches mentioned above and is willing to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with progressive forces worldwide, including the communist parties and left-wing organizations. Together, we will work to maintain world peace and stability, promote international fairness and justice, promote the development of socialism, and build a peaceful, stable, poverty-free, and prosperous world.

Song emphatically introduced the main content of the third volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.

Leaders of left-wing political parties from South Asia such as Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dinesh Gunawardena, and other experts and scholars spoke highly of the major strategic achievements made by China in epidemic prevention and control, as well as the important contributions to world peace and stability that China has made. They said, the successful fight against the epidemic has highlighted the superiority of the socialism with Chinese characteristics and the true value of Marxism, and has greatly enhanced the confidence of the global left-wing forces in socialism. The practice has proved that socialism can better cope with major crises such as pandemic than capitalism. Left-wing parties in South Asian countries look forward to learning from the latest theoretical achievements of General Secretary Xi Jinping in governing the country by studying the third volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China. At present, some countries are sparing no effort to suppress and smear China. In fact, they are deliberately shifting the focus away from their contradictions and crises. The left-wing forces in South Asia firmly oppose such behavior and are willing to work with China to strengthen solidarity and cooperation to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The seminar passed “Consensus over the Theoretical Seminar on the Socialism through the Lens of COVID-19 Response: Theory, Institution-Building & Practice. Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and others attended the seminar.
