Guo Yezhou Attends and Co-chairs BRICS Roundtable Meeting

Beijing, October 22nd—the BRIC party roundtable meeting was held here today via videolink. The meeting was hosted by the United Russia Party within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Political Parties Forum, and was co-chaired by Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Vladimir Pligin, Deputy Chair of International Relations Commission of United Russia General Council Presidium. Representatives of the United Russia Party, the Brazilian Labor Party, the Democratic Socialist Party of Brazil, the Bharatiya Janata Party of India, and the African National Congress of South Africa delivered speeches.

Guo Yezhou said, since China first initiated the dialogue among BRICS political parties in 2017, the BRICS have comprehensively promoted economic, political, as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation. Faced with the once-in-a-century epidemic and the changes unseen in a century, the political parties of the BRICS should further strengthen cooperation, strive to become an example of solidarity in fighting the epidemic, demonstrate political responsibility to protect people's livelihood, and hold the right direction of multilateralism. Guo Yezhou also introduced the smooth implementation of China's 13th Five-Year Plan, the upcoming formulation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and a long-term vision for 2035.

Representatives of the political parties of the BRICS shared the current situation in the fight against the epidemic, called for strengthening global anti-epidemic cooperation, and taking it as an opportunity to deepen the exchange of experience in state governance and administration. More than 8,000 people from more than 20 countries including the BRICS and SCO member countries watched meeting via videolink.
