On December 21st, 2020, the communication mechanisms for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) between Chinese and Egyptian political parties were established by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and 12 major political parties and organizations of Egypt. The first conference was held via videolink. Zhu Rui, Assistant Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and leaders of Egyptian political parties, including the Nation’s Future Party, Republican People’s Party, New Wafd Party, Egyptian Communist Party and others, attended the conference and delivered speeches.

Zhu Rui said, both China and Egypt are ancient civilizations with a long history. In recent years, under the care and leadership of President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Ab- del-Fattah al-Sisi, a high-level operation of China-Egypt comprehensive strategic partnership has been maintained. The cooperation between the two countries in various fields is fruitful. At a critical time when the world is fighting against COVID-19 epidemic and working together to resume work and production, it is of great significance for the political parties of China and Egypt to establish the communication mechanisms for the BRI, by which the two countries are able to make suggestions and build consensus for the BRI cooperation through exchanges between the CPC and political parties of Egypt, so as to promote the high-quality joint construction of the BRI and build a community with a shared future for China and Egypt. Centering on the new development stage, the new development concept, and the new development paradigm, Zhu Rui also briefed on the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC. He said that the future development of China will create more cooperation opportunities for all countries in the world, including Egypt.

The leaders of the Egyptian parties warmly congratulated on the successful convening of the fifth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, saying that the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and 2035 Long-Range Objectives adopted at the fifth plenary session will lead China to achieve new leap-forward development and inject strong impetus into global economic recovery as well as the common development of all countries. The parties spoke highly of the positive progress made in the co-construction of the Belt and Road between China and Egypt and agreed that the establishment of communication mechanisms for the BRI construction between Chinese and Egyptian parties will gather wisdom and strength of the parties for the cooperation on the BRI. They expressed their willingness to work with the CPC to improve the mechanisms continuously, promote the strategic alignment of Egypt’s Vision 2030 with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and 2035 Long-Range Objectives, and help to further deepen and substantiate the cooperation on the Belt and Road between China and Egypt, so as to push the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries for stable and long-term development.
