On May 28th, appointed by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held a video call with Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, head of the Education, Sports and Science Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Special Envoy of Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. The latter briefed Song on the details of the 8th National Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Song Tao first conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of General Secretary Xi Jinping to First Secretary Miguel Diaz-Canel. Song Tao said that not long ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with Miguel Diaz-Canel and exchanged in-depth views on the relations between the two countries and between the two parties, charting the course for the development of China-Cuba relations in the new era. The relationship between the two parties has served as an important pillar of China-Cuba relations and provided political guidance for the steady growth of bilateral relations. Since China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers, the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government attach great importance to the relations between the two countries and the two parties. China stands ready to work with the Cuban side to take the implementation of the consensus reached by the top leaders of the two countries as the opportunity to carry forward the longstanding friendship, strengthen political mutual trust, deepen strategic communication, and constantly enrich the connotation and achievements of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, so as to jointly score new achievements in the socialist cause of China and Cuba.

Song Tao said that the 8th National Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba is of great importance in making strategic plans and arrangements for the development of the party and the country both at present and in the time to come. He believed that under the strong leadership of the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba with First Secretary Miguel Diaz-Canel as the top leader, as well as the guidance of the spirit of the 8th National Congress, Cuba will achieve more new results in renewing its economic and social modes and building the prosperous and sustainable socialist cause.

Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo conveyed the cordial greetings and best wishes of Miguel Diaz-Canel to General Secretary Xi Jinping and briefed on the details of the 8th National Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. He said that the 8th National Congress analyzed the opportunities and challenges in the Cuban revolution as well as the major issues in Cuba’s economic and social development. He elaborated foreign policies of Cuba and stressed that developing the national economy, strengthening the ideological work and safeguarding world peace are the major tasks of Cuba in the future. The Congress has charted the course and made plans for the development of Cuba. The Congress elected a new Central Committee and achieved the goal of a younger leadership for the party and the government. The Cuban side warmly congratulated the CPC on the upcoming centenary, spoke highly of the great achievements made by China in poverty alleviation and other areas under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, and expressed its willingness to further strengthen the exchange of experiences in party and state governance with the CPC, promote practical cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and accelerate the continuous development of relations between the two parties and the two countries.
