Pacific Island Countries-China Political Leadership Dialogue

Beijing, May 28th—The International Department of the CPC Central Committee held here today the Pacific Island Countries-China Political Leadership Dialogue via video link. Leaders of Pacific Island countries attended the dialogue via video link, including Taneti Maamau, Leader of Tobwan Kiribati Party and President of Kiribati; David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia; Dalton Tagelagi, Premier of Niue; James Marape, Leader of PANGU Party and Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea; Manasseh Sogavare, Leader of the Our Party and Prime Minister of Solomon Islands; Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa, Leader of Tonga People's Party and Prime Minister of Tonga; Bob Loughman, President of the Vanua'aku Party and Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu; Frank Bainimarama, Leader of Fiji First Party and Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji. Diplomatic envoys of Pacific Island countries to China attended the dialogue. Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and delivered a speech at the event. Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, hosted the Dialogue. Ye Zhenqin, Member of Standing Committee of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and China International Development Cooperation Agency attended the Dialogue.

Song firstly conveyed the message from Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President to the leaders of Pacific Island countries. He also stated in the keynote speech that Pacific Island countries and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. President Xi Jinping held two meetings in 2014 and 2018 respectively with leaders from Pacific Island countries that have established diplomatic ties with China, upgraded bilateral relations into comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development, and pointed out the direction for the future development of bilateral relations. Though with different histories, cultures and social systems, Pacific Island countries and China have always been treating each other with great sincerity. China respects Pacific Island countries' choice of their own social systems and development paths that suit their national situations, appreciates the precious support from Pacific Island countries on issues concerning China's core interest, China is willing to work with Pacific Island countries to deepen strategic integration, jointly push the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, expanded the pragmatic cooperation in various fields including trade, investment, science & technology, energy and climate change, as well as conduct close coordination on international and regional affairs, so as to better benefit people all over the world.

Song also noted that the CPC, since its founding 100 years ago, has always adhered to the purpose of serving the people heart and soul and carried forward the Chinese traditional cultural spirit that when the great way prevails, the world is equally shared by all. Especially after the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the core has adhered to the people-centered development philosophy, advocated the new development philosophy featuring innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development, led China to obtain historical development achievements and focused on the building of a community with a shared future. The CPC is willing to work together with political leaders of Pacific Island countries to deepen mutual strategic trust, enhance inter-party exchanges, promote development through cooperation, and promote the building of a community with a shared future featuring equality, mutual benefit, and win-win results. The CPC is willing to work together with political leaders of Pacific Island countries to defend the international fairness and justice as well as the interest of developing countries, push forward South-South Cooperation, and make a greater contribution to world peace and development and the cause of human progress.

The leaders of Pacific Island countries congratulated on the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the CPC. They spoke highly of the remarkable development achievements made by Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the core, believed that China's successful experience will be of great reference to developing countries including Pacific Island countries, and thanked China for its precious help to the economic and social development as well as fighting against the COVID-19 in Pacific Island countries. Political parties in Pacific Island countries attach great importance to developing a friendly relationship with the CPC, and firmly adhere to the one-China principle. The political parties are willing to maintain close communication with the CPC, and deepen experience exchanges and mutual learning in party governance and state administration. Led by the inter-party relationship, they are willing to promote the pragmatic cooperation with the Chinese side in the fields including fighting against COVID-19, economy, trade, and infrastructure construction, push forward bilateral relations for more achievements, jointly uphold multilateralism and contribute to the world's sustainable development.

After the Dialogue, diplomatic envoys from Pacific Island countries in China visited Xiangshan (the Fragrant Hill) Revolutionary Museum. They conducted exchanges about the CPC's history and also shared their own stories with the CPC. The envoys said, through this visit, they have better understanding of the CPC's history and deeper impression of CPC's people-centered philosophy. They understood the reason why CPC could obtain such remarkable achievements and hoped to further promote cooperation between the CPC and their own political parties to jointly create a brighter future.
