The Symposium on Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and Theoretical Innovation of CPC's Diplomatic Work in the Past Century Held in Shanghai

Beijing, May 29th—The Institute of World Party Politics Studies[u1]  of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations and the Shanghai Association for International Studies[u2]  jointly held the symposium on Xi Jinping's Thought on Diplomacy and Theoretical Innovation of CPC's Diplomatic Work in the Past Century. Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Wang Ronghua, Vice President of the 10th Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of the Shanghai Education Development Foundation attended the symposium and delivered speeches.

Guo said, in the past 100 years, the diplomatic work of the Party started, thrived and grew strong because of the Party. To break new grounds in China’s theory and practice in diplomatic work, firstly we must stick to the correct political direction; secondly we must take Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy as well as General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important ideas and proposals about the diplomatic work of the CPC as the guide; thirdly we must adhere to the basic position of the Party’s diplomatic work; fourthly, we must uphold a systematic concept; we must have an accurate understanding of the historical position of China's diplomatic work, thoroughly analyze the external environment facing China’s diplomacy, sum up China’s experience in diplomatic work, and focus on the improvement of the efficiency of the Party’s diplomatic work.

Wang reviewed the momentous 100-year history that the CPC has led the Chinese people to struggle for a better life. He pointed out, in the past 100 years, particularly since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the CPC has adhered to the philosophy of mutual respect and equality, and made important contributions to serving national development, achieving national rejuvenation, safeguarding world peace and promoting human progress.

During the symposium, Zhang Baijia, former Deputy Director of the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, Xu Bu, President of the China Institute of International Studies, Xu Jian, President of the China Foreign Affairs University and Miao Deyu, Deputy Director-General and Level I Bureau Rank Official of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered speeches. Nearly 30 guests discussed the topics including theories and practices of the CPC's diplomatic relations in the past century and Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and China’s diplomacy development in the new era. More than 150 experts and scholars from key universities and research institutes in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin attended the symposium.
