The 6th China-Africa People's Forum Opens

Beijing, November 15th—The sixth China-Africa People’s Forum hosted by China NGO Network for International Exchanges was held here in the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese President, sent a congratulatory letter to the forum, whose theme is Working Together with Solidarity and Cooperation Towards Common Development and an Even Stronger China-Africa Community with a Shared Future. Leaders of many African countries sent congratulatory letters or messages via video link to the forum, including Macky Sall, Chairman of the Alliance for the Republic (APR) of Senegal and President of Senegal, Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chairman and First Secretary of Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) and President of Zimbabwe, Évariste Ndayishimiye, Chairman of XX of National Council for the Defense of Democracy – Forces for the Defense of Democracy and President of Burundi, Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and President of South Sudan. About 200 participants from over 30 countries attended the forum online and offline, including political heavyweights such as Essam Sharaf, former Prime Minister of Egypt, Abou el-Fadhl Baadji, Secretary-General of Algeria's National Liberation Front, and Manoj Seeborun, President of F.A.L.C.O.N Association of Mauritius, diplomatic envoys in China, heads of non-governmental organizations of China and African countries, as well as scholars of think tanks.

 

Song Tao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, first read the congratulatory letter sent by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President. Ji Bingxuan, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and President of the Chinese Association for International Understanding attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech. He said, General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter shows that the CPC and the Chinese government attach high importance to China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and non-governmental friendly exchanges, charting the course for inheriting our traditional friendship, enhancing the wellbeing of the people and promoting solidarity and cooperation. He added that leaders of many African countries sent videos and written statements to the forum. They spoke highly of China-Africa relations and non-governmental cooperation and expressed their hopes. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the African side, take the important instructions of leaders of both sides as guidance, strengthen exchanges and communication in concept and boost non-governmental friendly cooperation on platforms such as China-Africa People's Forum, in a bid to contribute to China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. It is hoped that both sides will resolutely safeguard the interests of developing countries together, carry forward the common values of mankind, and make global governance system more just and equitable. Ji also mainly introduced the spirit of the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

African leaders and heads of non-governmental organizations warmly congratulated the Chinese side on the success of the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, spoke highly of the CPC’s great achievements and valuable experience over the past 100 years, particularly the achievements and experience made since the 18th CPC National Congress under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core. They believed the resolution adopted at the session revealed the successful journey the CPC traversed, which is enlightening and worth learning for other countries and political parties. The African side said, guided by a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping, African and China worked together in politics, economy, trade, culture, science and technology and made fruitful achievements. African countries and political parties thanked the Chinese side for the precious support in the fight against the COVID-19 and other areas. The African side said non-governmental exchanges carries great significance for promoting Africa-China relations, and expressed the willingness to strengthen solidarity and cooperation, enhance mutual trust and friendship, and facilitate the building of a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Huang Xiaowei, Vice President of the All-China Women's Federation attended the opening ceremony of the forum. Chen Zhou, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee presided over the meeting.
