Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of UNP and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Has a Video Call with Liu Jianchao

Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of United National Party (UNP) and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, had a video call with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) on July 4th.

Wickremesinghe said, the people of Sri Lanka and China enjoy a long-term friendship. This year carries great significance for the development of Sri Lanka-China relations as it marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact. The Sri Lankan side thanks the Chinese side for offering precious support and help for its economic and social development for long. Attaching high importance to relations with the CPC, the UNP is willing to further enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the two Parties, and push practical cooperation between the two countries in all areas through inter-party channels to better benefit the two peoples. Wickremesinghe also introduced the current economic situation of Sri Lanka.

Liu said, China and Sri Lanka enjoy a long-standing friendship. The two countries have stayed committed to good-neighborliness, friendship, and the vision of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation for long. The two countries have always supported each other and shared weal and woe, and are good partners with mutual trust and coordination. The CPC and major political parties in Sri Lanka, including the UNP, have maintained robust relations, playing an important role for the development of the relations between the two countries. Under the new circumstance, the CPC is willing to strengthen strategic communication with the UNP, deepen institutionalized exchanges, expand cooperation that benefits the people, lead the unity and coordination and jointly safeguard the peace and stability in the international community and the region.
