Beijing, July 8th—Qian Hongshan, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today on the morning with Nicolas Chapuis, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to China, who was about to leave his post. Both sides exchanged views on China-European Union (EU) relations, exchanges between political parties and international and regional issues of common concern.

Qian said, the Chinese side has always viewed China-EU relations from a strategic perspective, and believed the mainstream of China-EU relations should be win-win cooperation. It is hoped that the EU side will form its perception of China independently and pursue its own policy towards China. Both sides should seek common ground while shelving differences, deepen cooperation, push China-EU relations for healthy and stable development, and contribute to world peace and prosperity.

Nicolas Chapuis said, EU-China relations now face both challenges and opportunities. The EU hopes to work with China to focus on common interests, deepen economic and trade relations, strengthen international cooperation, push common development, and effectively cope with all kinds of global challenges.
