Kathmandu, July 11th—The launching ceremony of Nepal Smiling Children Project (Food Distribution) was held today on the morning at Shanti Nikunja Secondary School. About 150 people attended the ceremony, including Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation of Nepal, acting General Secretary Manoj Bhatta of Social Welfare Council of Nepal, Wang Xin, Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Peng Xiubin, Head of the first bureau of the IDCPC, Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of Nepal Office of the China Foundation for Rural Development and teachers and students of Shanti Nikunja Secondary School.

In his speech, Liu said that the name of the function “smiling children” carries a good implication. The most beautiful things in the world are the smiling faces of children. Seeing their smiling faces is like seeing the sunlight, which brings us warmth and hope. Today’s event is very important, too. Sufficient and nutritious food can help the children thrive, work hard, and make their own contributions to themselves, their families and the better development of their countries.

Liu said, seeing the smiling faces of the children makes me feel deeply the profound foundation of the ever-lasting friendship between China and Nepal. I believe in the broad prospects of China-Nepal relations. I just visited B.P Koirala Memorial Planetarium, Observatory and Science Museum, and learnt a lot about the exchanges between the older generation of leaders of the two countries. Now I feel very happy and excited to see so many children sow the new seeds of our friendly cause. I am confident that with the solid foundations of the older generation of leaders of the two countries and the passionate participation and contributions of the young generation, China-Nepal friendship will transcend time, space, mountains and rivers to move towards an even brighter future.

Liu said, seeing the smiling faces of the children makes me feel deeply the great significance of carrying out the non-governmental exchanges and promoting cooperation on people's livelihood between our two countries. The social organizations of the two countries have proceeded from the needs of the people and the society to carry out many cooperation projects, which really responded to the demands of the people, delivered benefits to them and brought the two peoples closer. Our efforts today will benefit not only this generation, but many more to come. I want to share with you in particular that the Smiling Children Project (Food Distribution) has the huge support of the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund of the Chinese government, whose establishment was announced by General Secretary Xi Jinping. It is among the first batch of programs of China’s social organizations supported by the fund. The CPC encourages and supports social organizations of the two countries to strengthen exchanges and cooperation and bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Liu said, seeing the smiling faces of the children makes me feel deeply children are the future of our countries, and more importantly, the hope of China-Nepal friendship. Nepal is a great country. It is a good friend, neighbor, and partner of China. I sincerely hope that the Nepali children will work hard, temper their character, improve their competence, realize all-round development, and become the pillars in Nepal’s national development. I also hope that the Nepali children will have more opportunities to know about China, and become the bridge and ambassador of China-Nepal ever-lasting friendship, to contribute to China-Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity.

Liu said, today’s gathering is merely a start. And a bright future awaits us. Children of Shanti Nikunja Secondary School are welcome to visit China and make friends with the Chinese children.

On behalf of the Nepali side, Bhusal welcomed Liu’s attendance at the launching ceremony and thanked the Chinese side for offering long-term selfless assistance to the Nepali side. The Smiling Children Project (Food Distribution) hosted by China Foundation for Rural Development shows the Chinese social organizations’ spirit of pursuing public welfare causes and the profound friendship featuring mutual help between the two sides. The Nepali side will always remember this and is fully confident in the future of Nepal-China friendship.

At the launching ceremony, Liu and representatives of the Nepali side also distributed meals to some pupils and visited their kitchen under the program. The students performed traditional dances of Nepal to welcome the guests from afar in a lively atmosphere.

Nepal Smiling Children Project is a component of the international smiling children project of China Foundation for Rural Development, and was officially launched in May 2020. The Nepal Smiling Children Project (Food Distribution) was funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund of China. It is mainly about distributing meals to 3,600 students from poor communities in Kathmandu and other regions of the country.
