Shen Beili Attends the China-Pacific Island Countries Business Dialogue

On July 15th, the China-Pacific Island Countries Business Dialogue was held via video link. Shen Beili, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Fei Gaoyun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, H.R.H. Princess Salote Pilolevu Tuita, President of Tonga-China Friendship Association and Patron of China-Pacific Friendship Association of Tonga, and Anthony Turua, Secretary of Cultural Development of the Cook Islands, attended the dialogue and delivered keynote speeches respectively.

Shen said that mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit are the cornerstones of China's relations with Pacific Island countries. China has always sincerely helped Pacific Island countries develop their economies and improve people's livelihood. China is willing to work with the Pacific Island countries to jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative with a high quality, further strengthen cooperation in poverty reduction, green development, coping with climate change and other fields, and constantly enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development between China and the Pacific Island countries.

H.R.H. Princess Tuita said that Tonga-China relations have become stronger in the face of current global challenges, creating a new model of mutual support between large and small countries. Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and King Tupou VI, the relations between Tonga and China have enjoyed rapid development in recent years. Tonga cherishes its friendly relations with China and welcomes China as a sincere partner of the Pacific Island countries.

Fei noted that Jiangsu Province and Pacific island countries have promoted the implementation of a series of cooperation projects focusing on agricultural cooperation and exchanges. Jiangsu Province is willing to further deepen cooperation with Pacific Island countries in the fields including agricultural development planning, agricultural resource development, and food nutrition and health, and make positive contributions to building a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island countries.

Anthony Turua said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Cook Islands and China 25 years ago, the two sides have intensified high-level exchanges, deepened practical cooperation and carried out rich and colorful cultural exchanges, which have brought tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples. The Cook Islands cherishes its relations with China and hopes that the business communities of the two countries will strengthen cooperation in such fields as agriculture, fishery, climate change and technological innovation.

At the dialogue, more than 60 representatives from local governments, enterprises and trade institutions of China and Pacific Island countries had in-depth exchanges and docking on cooperation in the fields including trade and investment, climate change, culture and sports, agriculture and fishery technology and infrastructure construction, and reached a series of intended cooperation deals.
