Liu Jianchao Holds a Dialogue with Well-known Singaporean Scholars

Singapore, July 14th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, held here today on the afternoon a dialogue with well-known Singaporean scholars including George Yeo Yong-Boon, former Singaporean Foreign Minister, Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore, and Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-Large with the Singapore Foreign Ministry. Sun Haiyan, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, presided over the event.

Liu said, in the face of global changes and the pandemic both unseen in a century, the Chinese side is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with countries in the region, jointly implement the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, steer cooperation direction, and jointly cope with problems and challenges. We should jointly build and improve global governance, adhere to extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, safeguard international fairness and justice, and jointly safeguard the hard-won peace and development of the region.

Scholars from Singapore praised China's policies toward and important role in international and regional affairs. They said that in the context of the turbulent and unstable international situation, they expect China to play a more important guiding role in the global economic recovery and help the stabilization and reshaping of the international and regional supply and industrial chains, and provide more public goods for effective global and regional governance. Asian countries should contribute “Asian Wisdom” to easing global tensions and maintaining regional peace and stability with "Asian Plans" featuring inclusiveness and mutually beneficial cooperation.
