Liu Jianchao Holds a Group Meeting with Diplomatic Envoys from Pacific Island Countries to China

Beijing, August 18th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), held a group meeting here today with diplomatic envoys from Pacific island countries to China.

Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in the 1970s, China and Pacific island countries have always been good friends who treat each other sincerely, respect each other, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. In recent years, President Xi Jinping has held two group meetings with leaders of Pacific island countries that have established diplomatic ties with China. The comprehensive strategic partnership of mutual respect and common development between the two sides has continued to move forward with fruitful results. China and Pacific island countries are located in the Asia-Pacific region and are developing countries. Both sides share common interests in maintaining regional development and stability and promoting international fairness and justice. The Chinese side appreciates Pacific island countries' adherence to the one-China principle. China supports Pacific island countries in actively exploring development paths that suit their national conditions. It is hoped that the two sides will strengthen the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, deepen cooperation and promote regional peace and development.

Liu noted, the CPC attaches great importance to its relations with the political parties in the Pacific island countries, and is willing to strengthen the exchange of experience in party governance and state administration with the political parties from Pacific island countries on issues such as party building, coping with climate change and poverty alleviation. Liu introduced the main content of the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, expressing that the Chinese side is willing to conduct in-depth exchanges with political parties and envoys of Pacific island countries and work together to achieve common prosperity and development based on the principles of equal treatment, mutually beneficial cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, to promote the building of a closer community of shared future between China and Pacific island countries.

The diplomatic envoys from Pacific island countries spoke positively of the relations between Pacific island countries and China, and highly admired the world-renowned achievements China made under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core in the aspects including combating the COVID-19 and eradicating absolute poverty. They thanked the Chinese side for providing valuable support for the development of Pacific island countries. The diplomatic envoys said, no matter how the international landscape evolves, Pacific island countries will, as always, adhere to the one-China principle, firmly support the Chinese side's legitimate position on Taiwan and other China's internal affairs, and are willing to work with the Chinese side to uphold multilateralism, safeguard fairness and justice, and maintain unity and cooperation among developing countries. The fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China helps them keep abreast of the latest development in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, and understand China's road, China's governance, and China's principles. The diplomatic envoys to China are willing to actively promote the exchange of experience in state governance and administration between political parties in Pacific island countries and the CPC, support the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative, jointly promote the stability and long-term development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Pacific island countries and China, and make joint efforts for world peace and development. All envoys wished the 20th CPC National Congress a complete success.
