Liu Jianchao Meets with Philippine Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel

Manila, August 28th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Koko Pimentel, Philippine Senate Minority Leader and Chair of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Liu spoke highly of Pimentel's contributions to promoting the development of China-Philippines relations and exchanges between the political parties of the two countries. He said, the CPC attaches great importance to friendly exchanges with PDP-Laban and other major political parties in the Philippines, and hopes that the two sides will strengthen communication and cooperation, join hands to promote the implementation of the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, properly handle differences, and jointly build the “golden era” of the China-Philippines relations. Liu elaborated on China's principled position on the Taiwan question, the South China Sea issue and other issues. He hoped that both sides will strengthen dialogue and cooperation, join hands to address risks and challenges, and effectively maintain regional peace, stability, development and prosperity based on the common interests of the two countries and the general picture of China-Philippines relations.

Pimentel said, the Philippines and China are both friends and neighbors, which is a distinctive feature of Philippines-China relations. The Philippine side attaches great importance to strengthening friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in all fields and at all levels, enhancing mutual trust, strengthening solidarity, and achieving an everlasting friendship between the Philippines and China. The Philippines adheres to the one-China principle and also hopes to properly handle differences in the South China Sea issue through friendly diplomacy. Inter-party relations play a key role in the development of Philippines-China relations, and PDP-Laban is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges and exchanges of experience in state governance and administration with the CPC, facilitate friendly cooperation between the two countries through inter-party channels to share opportunities, achieve common development, promote bilateral friendship, and promote the healthy and stable development of Philippines-China relations.

Liu said, General Secretary Xi Jinping profoundly pointed out that the CPC will unite and lead the Chinese people to promote the uniquely Chinese path to modernization in an in-depth way and make new contributions to the exploration of the paths to modernization for mankind. I believe that one of the main features of the uniquely Chinese path to modernization is following the path of peaceful development to achieve modernization and promoting the development of China and mankind, which is fundamentally different from the paths taken by the Western capitalist powers in history and is a new form of human civilization.

Pimentel said, the Philippines is also exploring its own development path to modernization and is willing to learn from the successful models and experiences of the uniquely Chinese path to modernization. He wished China success in achieving its development goals under the correct leadership of the CPC.
