On October 6, the United Russia Party held the opening ceremony of the international conference entitled Environmental Policy and Sustainable Development. Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), Luvsannamsrai Oyun-Erdene, Chairman of the Mongolian People's Party and Mongolian Prime Minister and others delivered speeches online or sent congratulatory letters to the conference. Representatives of political parties and political heavyweights from nearly 20 countries and international organizations were present. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), attended and addressed the function on behalf of the CPC via video link upon invitation. Liu said, since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core has unswervingly put into practice the philosophy of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development and blazed a uniquely Chinese path to modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature. While staying committed to protecting the ecological environment of China, the CPC has devoted to building global ecological civilization. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative, and stressed the need to improve global environmental governance, actively respond to climate change and create a community of life for man and nature, providing the Chinese wisdom and solution for all countries of the world to tackle the problem of ecological protection and promote sustainable development. Liu said, the CPC and the United Russia Party have maintained institutionalized friendly exchanges and cooperation for a long time. The two Parties have held thematic sessions centering on sustainable development under the framework of China-Russia Political Parties Forum and made fruitful results. At present, the world is facing the combined impacts of a pandemic and major changes unseen in a century. Issues such as climate change and biodiversity pose severe challenges and threats to the existence and development of mankind. The CPC is ready to work with political parties of all countries, including the United Russia Party, coordinate economic development with ecological protection, boost sustainable development of the world, promote the building of a fairer and more just global governance system, and contribute the wisdom and strength of political parties to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind and the progress of mankind's civilization. The representatives of political parties said in their speeches that inter-party relationship is an important part of the relations between countries. Political parties of all countries should shoulder responsibilities, promote cooperation between countries, jointly cope with challenges such as climate change, strengthen concept exchanges, experience sharing and policy coordination, promote the steady global economic recovery and sustainable development in the post-pandemic era, practice true multilateralism, and promote the building of a better world.
