Liu said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and next year will usher in the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship. General Secretary Xi Jinping held talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Bangkok, Thailand last month, which has provided strategic guidance for bilateral relations. General Secretary Xi Jinping declared clearly at the 20th CPC National Congress that the CPC will advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization and better realize the people’s yearning for a better life. At the same time, the CPC will adhere to the path of peaceful development and provide new opportunities for countries around the world, including Japan, with China’s new development. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed major initiatives such as promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative, which embody the consistent purpose of China’s foreign policy to maintain world peace and promote common development, and also fully demonstrate China’s firm determination to live in peace and cooperate with neighboring countries for win-win results.

Liu clarified China’s position and propositions on the current international and regional situation and issues related to China-Japan relations. He noted, the more important the juncture is, the more necessary it is to show courage and responsibility. Both sides need to firmly grasp the correct direction of development ofChina-Japan relations, and oppose all kinds of words and deeds that interfere with and hinder the development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side appreciates the New Komeito Party’s long-term commitment to the cause of China-Japan friendship, and attaches great importance to the role of the exchange mechanism between the ruling parties of China and Japan. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the Liberal Democratic Party and the New Komeito Party through this mechanism, and fully and accurately implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, uphold the fine traditions of the older generation of Chinese and Japanese politicians, strengthen friendly exchanges between all walks of life in the two countries, promote the building of a China-Japan relationship fit for the new era, and make new historical contributions to maintaining China-Japan friendship and advancing regional peace and stability.

Yamaguchi said, the 20th CPC National Congress has laid a solid foundation for China’s future development. Since its establishment, the New Komeito Party has been committed to developing Japan-China relations and serving as a golden bridge of Japan-China friendship. At present, the world is facing many negative impacts brought about by COVID-19 and other factors. The New Komeito Party is willing to take the opportunity of the successful meeting between Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and President Xi Jinping in Bangkok, abide by the important principles such as Japan and China not posing threats to each other and working together for peaceful development established in the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship and other three political documents, strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the CPC, resume face-to-face exchanges as soon as possible, and vigorously conduct exchanges between young politicians and promote the development of Japan-China relations as always.
