Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of Spanish Left-wing Political Parties, Think Tanks, and Media Outlets

Beijing, March 22nd—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a Spanish delegation led by José Luis Centella, President of the Communist Party of Spain. The delegation consisted of representatives of Spain’s left-wing political parties, think tanks, and media outlets.

Liu said, China and Spain enjoy time-honored friendship, and the people of both countries share a close bond. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. At present, the two countries have maintained close high-level communication, with rapid growth in bilateral trade volume and fruitful results in the Belt and Road cooperation and other fields. The Communist Party of China (CPC) attaches great importance to the exchanges of experience in party building and state governance with Spain’s political parties, appreciates the fair and objective standing of the Communist Party of Spain and other left-wing forces of Spain on issues concerning China’s core interests and major concerns, and hopes that the two sides will further promote inter-party exchanges, so as to make more progress in the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership and bring more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Liu said, as the world is facing multiple crises and challenges, China will continue to promote high-standard opening-up and fully advance the Chinese path to modernization, so as to contribute to the global economic recovery and peaceful development. Recently, General Secretary Xi Jinping has proposed the Global Civilization Initiative, which joins the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative to define a realistic path for building a community with a shared future for mankind under new circumstances. The Chinese side is ready to work with Spain’s political parties, think tanks, and media outlets to uphold and practice multilateralism and to address multiple challenges in the world. It is hoped that Spain will play an active role in the European Union to push China-EU relations for sound and stable development and safeguard world peace and stability.

Centella and other Spanish representatives said that they have been paying close attention to the successful 20th CPC National Congress and the “two sessions”. They spoke positively of the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting, which they think is a timely proposal in line with the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative under the current situation and will contribute to building a community with a shared future for mankind. They spoke positively of China’s adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and its impartial position on the Ukraine issue. They said, Spain and China enjoy a long tradition of friendship, and they wished the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries a complete success. Spain’s left-wing forces cherish the friendly relations with the CPC, and are willing to promote inter-party exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as the Belt and Road cooperation, so as to promote China-Spain relations for greater development. Spain stands ready to play a constructive role in promoting EU-China dialogue and cooperation to build a better world.
